It was conceived as a companion piece to A Night at Schouwburg, the CD of which was released on that night. Most often it just consists of them showing up and playing whatever they can remember occasionally it’s more planned out, like last year’s anniversary concert which also saw them releasing their new album 7 Bidadari and performing it in full.īut for me, the Naif anniversary show in 2008 remains the one to beat.

Which is a shame, because these anniversary shows are usually the only time you get to hear them play longer than regular shows, in which they pull out all sorts of rarities. Unless they’re keeping it secret, it looks like they’re not doing anything special in 2018 like they’ve done in years past. Next is the band’s 13th anniversary show at Hard Rock Cafe. Luckily I was already a compulsive bootlegger by then, so here’s the full acoustic set. But the people listening via radio missed out on the moments in between broadcasts, because the band kept playing during advertisement breaks. (More about that here.) In front of the Trax FM crew and a bunch of fans, Naif were interviewed and performed some songs acoustically on air. This was part of Trax FM’s Road to Basecamp, in which that radio station broadcasted live from several bands’ headquarters over the space of a week. So to mark the band’s 23rd anniversary today, here are a couple of mementos from that magical year a decade ago.įirst up is an acoustic set at the band’s management office. In terms of creative output, they’ve never had a better year since.

They released a children’s book and accompanying eight-song CD under the name BonBinBen they released Let’s Go, a collection of Televisi outtakes and alternate versions of old songs, and distributed it as a free CD with Rolling Stone Indonesia and they performed their now-legendary acoustic concert at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta which was recorded and released as the live album A Night at Schouwburg. They were still riding high from the year before on the back of Televisi, which to this day remains one of their strongest albums, and 2008 turned out to be one of their most productive years.
